A Pair of Detentions Following London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the partial shutdown of the CTA tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was detained for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, authorities confirmed.

The arrests come after an investigation into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their luggage after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A toddler aged three was among the injured during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Officers arrested a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault close to the scene. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Authorities were alerted at about 08:10 GMT following reports of several people injured by an irritating chemical thought to be an irritant spray.

The attack - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
